Here's a fundamental question about sacred space: Who is it for?
Two basic models appear across religious traditions. In the first model, the sacred space is primarily the god's house. Humans are visitors, guests in the divine residence. In the second model, the sacred space is primarily the people's house, a gathering place for the community where the divine is invited to be present.
Both models create sacred space. Both foster belonging. But they do it in different ways, with different implications for who gets included.
