Chronicles was written for those people, retelling the history of Israel and Judah through the lens of the Great King's unconditional promises to his people first declared to Abraham.

The Books of Kings had traced how the people had broken the conditional covenant expectations first delivered at Mount Sinai and the outcomes of such covenant infidelity.

Chronicles shows what held underneath all of that: the Great King’s unconditional promise to David, still active, still in force, bedrock beneath the erosion. For a community reading this scroll in a ruined city, that was the most urgent fact available.
