There is a stunning fact about two individuals in scripture both named Laban. Each is connected to an episode of a single sentence of direct speech. The Old Testament records only one statement of direct speech from God to Laban (father-in-law to Jacob/Israel). And then in the Book of Mormon, only one statement of direct speech from Laban is recorded. I know of no other instances anywhere in scripture like this. What do these singular acts of speaking across two different scripture books, both speech acts connected to a man named Laban, reveal about the power of speech and the intent of hearts?
