Introduction
Isaiah 1 through 12 directed the Great King’s covenant lawsuit at Judah.
Isaiah 13 through 35 expands the scope to the entire world. Babylon, Assyria, Moab, Egypt, Tyre: nation after nation receives its own covenant verdict.
This is not Isaiah overreaching. It is the Great King’s covenant logic applied consistently. The suzerain-vassal treaty governs Israel. The Abrahamic covenant of grant promises blessing to all families of the earth. That means the Great King holds every nation accountable.
His reach extends to every kingdom on earth. His jurisdiction does not stop at Israel’s borders. No empire, no matter how powerful, stands outside his reach.
Babylon’s judgment oracle in Isaiah 13 opens with the language of the Great King mustering his forces: a multitude in the mountains, the LORD of hosts marshaling his army, weapons of indignation, the day of the LORD at hand (Isaiah 13:4–6).
This is the same Great King who appeared at Sinai.
His covenant enforcement reaches across every political boundary. The same covenant standards that governed Israel govern every nation that claims a sovereignty it did not receive from the Great King himself.
