Every person alive today is living inside the future that previous generations designed.

The road network, the legal system, the educational institutions, the atmospheric chemistry, the accumulated public debt, the aquifers and forests and topsoils: all of these are the product of choices made by people who are now dead, choices whose consequences arrived long after the choosing.

We are, in the most literal sense, the future people our ancestors were building for, whether they knew it or not.
