Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are two of the Bible’s wisdom books, full of short lines about how to actually live. One good verse can shape a whole week. As you read, find the one that fits where you are right now, and bring it with you to Sunday.
Read
Read this week’s chapters before Sunday. Somewhere in here is a line you could live by. When one catches your attention, mark it.
Read a few chapters at a time, and pause after each one to ask what it’s actually telling you to do.
Why: Stopping to ask what a passage asks of you is purposeful reading: it keeps short sayings from blurring together.
Or listen to an audio version while you follow along in the text.
Why: Hearing the words while you follow along adds a spoken layer to the written one, which can help the reading stick, especially if you learn well by ear.
Or read it aloud to yourself.
Why: Saying words out loud activates both your speech and your hearing, sometimes called the production effect, and text you say tends to be remembered better than text you only see.
