This week brings Isaiah 53, the chapter that shows the Savior more clearly than almost any other in the Old Testament, the Suffering Servant who carried our griefs. Around it are some of God’s tenderest promises, a kindness that won’t depart, and an invitation to come to him freely. As you read, find the verse that draws you closest to him, and bring it to Sunday.
Read
Read this week’s chapters and watch for where you see Jesus in the words. When a verse shows him to you, mark it.
Read Isaiah 53 twice: once straight through, once slowly, a few verses at a time.
Why: Rereading a short, dense passage more slowly the second time lets you catch what a single fast read misses.
Or listen to an audio version while you follow along in the text.
Why: Hearing the words while you follow along adds a spoken layer to the written one, which can help the reading stick, especially if you learn well by ear.
Or read it aloud to yourself.
Why: Saying words out loud activates both your speech and your hearing, sometimes called the production effect, and text you say tends to be remembered better than text you only see.
