Yahweh of the South: Wilderness, City and the Origins of Covenant Faith (Taylor Halverson, Ph.D.)
This study traces Israel’s earliest memory of Yahweh as a wilderness God revealed in the southern deserts, not city temples. Drawing on biblical poetry, archaeology, and prophetic texts, it shows how covenant faith consistently resists centralized religious power and is renewed through divine encounters in marginal spaces where God’s freedom and presence remain uncontained.
